Every setting
5What each number in the dialog means, and where it starts.
Distance
How far to move the outline. Negative goes inward.
Count
How many rings to make, each one further out than the last
Fill to centre
Steps inward until the shape closes. The distance is the gap.
Beam width
Reads it as beam width, so the outline moves out by half.
Layer
Where the new rings go.
What it is
Grows or shrinks the selected closed shapes by a set distance. Positive goes outward, negative goes inward, and the shapes you started with stay put.
