Set up your keyboard shortcuts
The keys you already have in your fingers, doing the same things here.
Before you start
Anybody moving from another program, and anybody who does the same job fifty times a day.
- Nothing. It takes two minutes.
Find the one you want to change
Every action in the app is listed with the keys it answers to. Search for the action by name rather than scrolling: there are over a hundred.
Press the keys you want
Press the combination rather than typing its name. What you press is what gets recorded, which is the only way to be sure the two agree.
If those keys are already doing something, it says so and names what. Nothing is taken silently.
Know what cannot be changed, and why
Start and Frame are fixed. They are the two that fire the laser and move the head, and an operator who has learned them on one machine has to find them in the same place on the next one.
Shortcuts are also kept per platform, so a Mac keeps its own set and a Windows machine keeps another. The same person moving between them gets the modifiers they expect on each.
How to know it worked
- The key you set does the thing you set it to.
- It survives closing and reopening the app.
When it goes wrong
2It says the keys are taken.
They are, by the action it names. Either pick different keys or clear the other one first.
Start will not let me rebind it.
